Retailers offer Steam Wallet cards at premium prices

Days after we announced that Steam Wallet cards would be launched in India soon, a few retailers have started offering them. Strangely, the cards are yet to be officially released in India.

Nextworld has the cards listed in five denominations - $5, $10, $25, $50 and $100, although only the latter two are available for purchase. It is charging Rs 3,500 for the $50 card, and Rs 7,200 for the $100 card. Snapdeal is also selling the same denominations, and for just Re 1 less.

Both retailers are offering these Steam Wallets at a significant premium over the US dollar value. $50 converts to around Rs 2,970, while $100 is equivalent to Rs 5,935, so the prices here are at a premium of 15% and 17.5% respectively.

While Snapdeal mentions on this site that the Wallet codes will be emailed to buyers, no information is provided by Nextworld, but the cash-on-delivery payment option suggests that physical codes will be shipped.

We contacted both retailers to enquire whether these Steam Wallets were supplied by Cybergames India, Valve’s India partner who is set to launch the cards in India officially. While Nextworld is yet to respond, Snapdeal confirmed that the Wallets listed on its site were not sourced through Cybergames.

Cybergames has confirmed to MCV that it has not supplied these Steam Wallet cards/codes, and that it is yet to launch them.
